finally after two years I managed to take a vacation with my family - well not truly a vacation because it was not to any exotic locale or something - one can call it a break. I decided to go along with my wife and kids to spend 10 days in Kolkata. Another deciding factor was ofcourse the fact that I would get 10 days to spend with my bum chum anshu and his family.
Having decided to go to kolkata, opted to make the most of it by taking my two sons on a tour of kolkatta and showing them places where I used to hang out as a lanky teenager. The children had a ball visiting Dakhineswar temple, Belur Mutt, Citizen park. Of course they were disappointed that I did not take them to a resort (with a swimming pool) as I had promised them earlier. It is really sad that a place of Kolkata has hardly got a decent resort within driving distance of say 2 or 3 hours. In this respect Mumbai definitely scores over Kolkatta where there are umpteen weekend getaways.
